Mitsuoka’s business is constantly challenging itself to create unique and pleasantly cars with free-thinking and designs, that matches with the changing times.
Aiming to be a one-of-a-kind presence in the Automotive Industry, Mitsuoka sells original cars such as the Buddy, Rockstar, Orochi, Viewt, and Zero-1 both domestically and internationally. These cars are manufactured by hands by artisans in a small factory of Toyama Prefecture, Japan. While domestically produced, Mitsuoka’s car manufacturing methods, which set it apart from major automakers, and its unique sales methods have been cultivated through handling a wide range of cars from around the world. Utilizing this experience, Mitsuoka will continue to strive to create the unique, dreamy cars. Furthermore, to ensure thorough after-sales care even for rare products, the company has expanded its directly managed stores and authorized dealerships nationwide to support customers’ car life.
We believe that a car should not simply be a means of transportation, but a “true-blooded companion” that adorns the life of its owner. Even now, more than 100 years into the history of the automobile, the beauty of historic cars from the past remains undiminished. This is surely because they exude the wisdom and hard work of our predecessors, who devoted their passion to car making. In an automotive industry where mass production is the destiny, our cars are rare and therefore require a lot of efforts. Despite the fact that our equipment and environment are far from adequate, our craftsmen still face the task of making the cars with sincerity, pouring their souls into creating these “works” that adorn the lives of their owners.
The cars we make have unique designs, and each one is handcrafted by a skilled craftsman. Each one exudes a warmth, a masterpiece made just for you. This uniqueness can only be achieved by handcrafting.
Aiming to be unique in the Japanese automotive industry, Mitsuoka Motors produces original cars which are being sold nationwide, crafted in its own development plant. Starting with the single-seater “Zero Hand Car (Microcar)” in 1982, the company developed the replica cars. Utilizing unconventional ideas, the company launched the “Viewt” in 1993, pioneering fashion cars with stylish design and a playful spirit. In 1994, the company unveiled the “Zero-1” a kind of sports car with a chassis built in-house. This made Mitsuoka the 10th passenger car manufacturer in Japan (after M/s. Honda) and established the foundation for its vehicle development business. The “Zero-1” won the Nikkei Shimbun Regional Revitalization Contribution Company Award in 1995 and the Japan Fashion Association Lifestyle and Culture Award in 1995. It was also selected as a Good Design Product by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (currently the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) in 1997. In 2001, the company unveiled the “Orochi,” exhibited at the Tokyo Motor Show and garnered the attention for its unique design. Mitsuoka’s products have been widely renowned not only in Japan but also overseas.
In 2018, Mitsuoka Motors released a special model, the “Rockstar,” in commemoration of its 50th Anniversary, as a limited production of only 200 units. As the name suggests, it is Mitsuoka’s answer to those who simply and straightforwardly love cars. It was widely covered in the media and became a hot topic.
In 2020, Mitsuoka released the Buddy, its first SUV. It was released as a model with a square, four-headlight style face reminiscent of classic American cars. It became a huge hit upon its release, with over 1,000 orders received in just under two years. The Buddy, which is still in production today, has touched the hearts of many people and will continue to serve as a great companion for its owners.
The original car business continuously takes on new challenges to expand the possibilities of automobile manufacturing. For example, in the specially equipped vehicle production and sales business, which we have long pursued proactively, we have achieved remarkable growth in recent years. In particular, the funeral vehicle sector has been expanding rapidly, and in 2023 the cumulative number of production and shipments of funeral coaches surpassed 1,000 units.
As a hearse for solemnly sending off those who have passed away, we will continue to support our customers’ businesses with the unwavering dignity of the MITSUOKA brand.
In the past, we have pursued new possibilities in mobility to address societal needs, including the development of a single-seat electric vehicle and proposals for its application in delivery services and tourist destinations.
